Men's Health Forum

June 17 2004 "The Foundation For Cancer Research and Education (FCRE) is proud to announce that renowned prostate oncologist and prostate cancer survivor, Dr. Charles Snuffy Myers will participate in The Men's Health Forum at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. The meeting will be held on July 10, 2004 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and promises to be a succinct and informative primer for anyone facing a prostate cancer diagnosis. Made possible by the American Cancer Society, Mary Washington Hospital, MediCorp Health System, and The Cancer Center of Virginia, this event promises to be a comprehensive tool for promoting education and survival.

The program consists of four speakers, all of whom are eager to share their expertise on topics, such as basic prostate health, radiation therapy, and testosterone replacement therapy. Dr Myers plans to round off the discussion with an in depth analysis of diet and prostate cancer, one of the most important topics in the field today.

"It's important to let men know the dangers of things like flax seed oil and animal fat," Myers says. "But I also want to let them know there are things they can eat, like fish, that can have a dramatic impact on slowing prostate cancer growth. "You are what you eat' couldn't be more true for prostate cancer patients today."

Other experts include: Urologist, Elmore Becker; Cancer Center of Virginia Director, Wilson Sprenkle; and Endocrinologist, Hazel Bowen-Wright.

"It's great to be a part of such a diverse program," Myers says. "Patients need to know their options and that includes more than just radiation and surgery. So many men are rushed into treatment while still ignorant of how things like diet and hormonal therapy can have a profound influence on their treatment."

Designed to meet the needs of the newly diagnosed and the weathered veteran, The Men's Health Forum at Mary Washington, offers a well-balanced look at the most common cancer facing men in this country. The program is free and open to the public, but due to limited seating, registration is required. To register, patients should call 866-293-2950.

"We want to encourage patients to come on down and share in the collective energy," Myers adds. "I always say that education is the key to survival, and the concepts patients learn at this forum may wind up saving their lives."

Medical oncologist, nutrition expert, and prostate cancer survivor Dr. Charles "Snuffy" Myers is one of the leading authorities on prostate cancer research today. An experienced researcher, he was a key player in creating AZT, Suramin, and Phenylacetate while working at the National Institute of Health. Myers has published his research in over 250 reputable periodicals and his most recent diet, The Longevity Weight Loss Plan, is a crucial tool for anyone on the road to a healthy lifestyle. Formerly the Director of the Cancer Center at the University of Virginia, he has founded FCRE to educate patients and to dispel the myth that a cancer diagnosis is a death sentence. In fact, FCRE (www.cancer-foundation.org) was set up to educate patients with the essential health information that has saved his own life.
