About FCRE

The Foundation for Cancer Research & Education's educational goals are to acquaint the general public, cancer patients, and health care professionals with recent advances in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Our research efforts focus on improving survival and quality of life for prostate and breast cancer patients.

FCRE advocates comprehensive cancer care, which means understanding all of the available cancer treatment options and combining them if necessary. A comprehensive program also includes evaluation and treatment of cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, or any other disease that affects overall health.

While prostate cancer is certainly a focus for us, we have many projects from developing clinical cancer research to supporting an innovative film on breast cancer called "Summer Running."

Through lectures given by its staff and through its published educational materials, the Foundation teaches patients and health care providers how to minimize the often debilitating side effects associated with cancer treatment. Patients will learn to take control of their disease -- in effect, becoming their own health care advocates.

FCRE partners with other foundations, institutes, institutions, hospitals, and support groups to host conferences, seminars, special events, and publications to reach as many men and women as possible.

FCRE was started in 2002 by Dr. Rose Sgarlat Myers and Dr. Snuffy Myers.
